Friendly help to get in shape!

Personal training is personal to you, so you set the goals and the agenda. I have years of experience as a sports coach, so training with me, I will apply my coaching skills to helping you reach your goals. You can read more about my qualifications on the "About Me" page.

My Approach to Personal Training

I’m applying more than 10 years of experience as a sports coach to personal training, and I have worked with people aged 3 to 82, from unfit beginners to taking people to international races – so I have enough experience to take on all sorts of clients. Regardless of age, ability or fitness, there are three really important things that have to run through training.

  • It is allowed to be fun! When an athlete stops enjoying their training, it is a worrying sign, as it can damage their motivation to train hard, and can be a sign of over-training or doing too much. The same applies to personal training, so if you enjoy what we do, you are more likely to get success – hence fun is important.
  • It should be social! Some people can go out and do their training by themselves, but generally we are social animals, who like company. I am friendly and engaging, so that is one nice person for you to train with, and I encourage you to share your sessions with your friends. You can also augment your training by joining in with the social runs with the Cholsey Joggers
  • It should make you feel proud! Often sport can be a competitive thing, which can turn some people off the idea, but I want you to compete with yourself, keep improving your abilities over time, and progressing towards your goals. Regular sessions with me will gradually build on skills and fitness that you have developed, so you achieve more and more, and it becomes pride that motivates you further.

I’ll push you hard when you need it, but in a positive way, not by standing over you and yelling. The positive, fun, social atmosphere and the progress you are making will be your motivation!
An added bonus is to do sport somewhere beautiful! In summer, in Oxfordshire, this isn’t difficult, but through the winter, it becomes more challenging. However, I have lined up some great (warm and dry) indoor training locations, and if you build up a great base of fitness over 6 months of the winter, you will be able to romp all over the countryside in the spring…

Benefits of Personal Training

It would be great to talk to you about you goals, and how I can help you to achieve them.

The benefits of exercise are well-known, but there is also a lot of pseudo-science and myths in the area. I enjoy applying the knowledge I gained during my degree in Biomedical Sciences, and time as a lab-researcher, into scrutinizing the evidence and understanding what the evidence really shows.
I can come and train with you as often as you would like, and also plan additional sessions for you to do in your own time. My approach is to be friendly and encouraging - if you want to be yelled at, please go elsewhere! But if you want a trainer who believes in your abilities and really wants to help you get there, then it would be lovely to meet you.
